Is excluding a game from Bitdefender safe??

Is it safe to exclude games within Bitdefender? If so, which specific monitoring and scanning features can be safely exempted and through what process? Please provide a comprehensive and in depth analysis. Furthermore, which Windows files should be excluded to ensure lag free gaming without compromising system security? Note that some games may originate from untrusted sources and could potentially be malicious.

Hi,

I think it can be safe to exclude games in Bitdefender, but only when you do it surgically, so when you exclude specific folders or processes, and only for games you trust. If some games are from untrusted sources, broad exclusions can create a very real blind spot where malware can live and run..
High risk exclusions can be pirated or cracked games, repacked installers, unknown launchers, so these are definitely a no-no, in my opinion. Also watch out for mods and tools downloaded from random sites. And usually anything that requests admin rights, disables security, or injects into other processes should not be excluded from.
I think there isn't really a comprehensive and in depth analysis to make, just apply common sense..

Bottom line is, for games you don’t fully trust, don't exclude and scan the installer and extracted files first, consider running the game in a VM first, and keep ATD enabled as this module is most likely to catch game-looking malware.

I believe that even trusted games can be compromised, allowing hackers to exploit game file paths. Advanced Threat Defense (ATD) alone is insufficient, as malicious elements could infiltrate the system and may only be detected much later when it is already too late. Therefore, Bitdefender’s real time scanning remains a critical first line of defense.
