the program 'antimalware service executable' is using a lot of CPU. It is part of Windows Defender. Can I turn it off or remove it because I have Bitdefender Internet Security?
Hello,
Generally speaking, it's not necessary to remove or manually disable it. That's a built-in Microsoft Defender component, and on Windows 10/11, Defender normally steps back automatically when a properly registered third-party antivirus such as Bitdefender is installed and in that setup, it becomes the main antivirus.
What you can try is to open Windows security and go to virus and threat protection to check whether Microsoft Defender periodic scanning is turned on. If it is, you can turn that off. Then reboot and make sure Bitdefender is installed correctly. My advice would be not to remove MsMpEng.exe.
