Republican Websites Have Certificates that Don't Match

I receive many e-mails from republican politicians and the party and ask me to view their website. When I click, I'm stopped by BitDefender and get message that their certificates don't match. Is this really true? I can't believe that all these websites are screwed up.

Hi,

Some websites have sub-domain URLs used for their newsletters, promotional campaigns and tracking, for example. Sometimes, they are using certificates with another name than the domain used by the website and this may trigger the antivirus notification multiple times in a short period of time. It seems it's a very common practice now.

If you wish, you can check their SSL certificates at https://www.sslshopper.com/

Alternatively, you can add an exception for the website(s) in Bitdefender → Protection → Online Threat Prevention → Manage Exceptions, or, from the same area (Online Threat Prevention) - disable the Encrypted Web Scan feature which scans for the certificates of websites (not a recommended action).
