Invalidated security certificate when using Outlook via gmail

I am getting an invalid security certificate and have been getting it a while.. This morning for one article I found said I had malware and it needed to be removed.

CertMgr > certificates > Untrusted Certificates and delete the certificate. Then uninstall and reinstall Bitdefender..

Because it wouldn't uninstall, I had to use the uninstall tool. which removed everything..I reinstalled everything finally... and scanned...I logged into email and didn't get the error this was while I was trying to get the VPN back installed.

Then after it was installed and I tried later... so I got the error message below.

Then when I click the view certificate It says:

Then I tried with the VPN off.. no error message. per AI it says I need to

Disable Encrypted Web Scan: Go to Bitdefender > Protection > Online Threat Prevention > Settings > Toggle off Encrypted web scan.

Change VPN Protocol: In the Bitdefender VPN app, go to Settings > Advanced > Protocol and change it from Automatic to another option like Hydra or WireGuard.

Whitelist Gmail: Go to Protection > Online Threat Prevention > Manage exceptions > Add an Exception for mail.google.com or google.com.

I'm not sure why I would do the first option. Why would I turn that off?

The 2nd option.. I don't know what the difference is..

And I guess I could do the third option.. I need some advice. :)

So the issue only manifests itself while the VPN is connected?
As for the steps suggested by AI, the Encrypted Web Scan is a feature that scans for the certificates of websites. It's part of the Online Threat Prevention security module and it will flag any attempts to access an HTTPS domain that has security certificate issues. From a security perspective, it's not recommended to disable it, and in any case, I think it's unlikely that this is causing the error you are encountering…

As for the VPN protocols, I think it's worth trying to switch between them and see if this solves the issue. A VPN protocol is a set of rules that determine how data is packaged and transferred between your device and the VPN server. Some devices support most protocols, while others are more restrictive. By default, Bitdefender VPN is configured to automatically select the optimal protocol for your device and network, usually a balance of speed and security. I'm only recommending this since you mentioned the VPN.

And yes, you can go ahead and whitelist gmail, although this shouldn't be necessary, really, so I think the issue lies somewhere else..

They can also request logs from the installed product on your device and these may prove helpful in their investigation. State your contact reason, choose request category, then select from the available contact channels, chat, phone and email/ticket. Chat would be the fastest way to reach them.
