Microsoft's "Mouse Without Borders" software.

Hello, I am new to this community and have a question about the VPN. I can enable it, but at my office I work on 3 desktop PCs with 1 keyboard and 1 mouse using Microsoft's "Mouse Without Borders" software. As soon as I enable the VPN, I encounter problems where I can no longer navigate between the 3 PCs. I have already added the program in the advanced settings, but this doesn't help. Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this? I live in Belgium and my native language is Dutch. So, apologies in advance if my English is not perfect.

Hello and welcome to the community!

The thing is, that mouse software works over your local network, while the VPN can change routing and isolate traffic in a way that prevents devices on the same LAN from seeing each other normally. In the Bitdefender VPN for Windows product, there is a setting called “Local network – Allow access to devices on the local network”, and that is the first thing I would check.

Also do this, if you haven't already: open the VPN app, go to its Settings, select General and make sure Local network is turned ON. Then go to Settings → Advanced → Split tunneling to add the "Mouse Without Borders".exe file there, so it bypasses the VPN tunnel.
A second thing worth checking is the firewall in Bitdefender, because even if the VPN is configured correctly, the firewall can still block an application’s access to the local network unless a proper rule exists. Here, also make sure that Stealth Mode is turned off.

Bottom line is, Mouse Without Borders relies on local network communication and specific ports, so if the VPN is active and local traffic is still being redirected or filtered, it may simply not work reliably while connected. In that case, the practical workaround is to disconnect the VPN while using this mouse software, or only use the VPN on the PC that does not need to control the others.

Hello, I have implemented your settings for the VPN and in the Bitdefender firewall, but unfortunately, the VPN continues to block the software. Consequently, there is no other option than to disable the VPN on the 3 PCs I use with this software. I have also tried with other software, but the result is exactly the same. Nevertheless, thank you for the possible solution you have provided.

Sorry I couldn't help, it seems that the program just doesn't work with a VPN in this case..
