Stop your pop ups?

Question

I have done everything I can find to get rid of your annoying AF pop ups at the bottom right of my screen. Your software ignores all of those settings and is STILL irritating. You people need a 'silent running' feature. If all your program is going to do is ignore my preferences on MY device, I will not renew my service when it is gratefully expired. Do better or lose money.

Hi and thank you for replying.

Let's agree to disagree here. You bought a top-notch security product and its job is to protect your devices and make you aware whenever there's an imminent threat or something that requires your attention. Because sometimes, user intervention might be required and options may be provided to take further action, if needed.

Having no security alerts is like having a silent house alarm. What's the point?

Whenever something relevant to the security of your system or data happens, such notifications play a key role in raising awareness of the events happening on the device and send assurances that the product is operating as expected. When buying a security solution, the majority of customers expect that the program communicates with them. This is based on research, not what I assume.

This is not a horoscope app btw, it's a security solution. Being a security product by design, it does not have a toggle to disable security-related notifications entirely, as this would defy the whole purpose of having an interactive antivirus that provides feedback and alerts the user of any potential threats or attacks coming their way. It's not bragging about itself, it's trying to help you avoid clicking on a link that could ruin you financially, or steal your data, or worse..

Furthermore, having a silent feature could pose a risk for the more inexperienced users and may lead to unwanted security events or vulnerabilities. Taking all possible risks into consideration, but also technical implications involving the whole architecture of the solution that would require significant modifications, the security researchers and developers have decided that the antivirus will not have a silent feature, so it can alert users all the time, if something is not right.

If, however, there is an unexpected and unnatural behaviour in the way the notifications are being displayed (and by this I mean a threat that is successively triggering a particular notification several times in a row), this is entirely a different story. The solution is not to disable the notifications altogether, but to find the root cause and see what threats are triggering the notification, to what extend and frequence, establish if there are any imminent dangers and address them and of course fix the unwanted behavior of the notification in the process.

As I said, I have already done ALL of that. And a pop up patting yourself on the back is not urgent or critical. I already expect the antivirus program I use to constantly do what it was designed for. I do not need it popping up to tell me it's "continuing" to do what I paid for it to do. As you put it, 'assurances'.

If I need to wonder if your software is doing what I paid for, then this is not antivirus software for me. There are too many actual concerns in this life to have to worry if the antivirus software I paid for is meeting my needs or doing its job.

You say you're not trying to waste my time, yet that is all you have done. I read through a bunch of the community questions about this before I bothered to contact you. I did not roll up in here without doing my research and all I heard back was the exact same thing you say about everything.

As I have confirmation that you have no useful information, this concludes our interaction.

Hi @Fitz,

I'm not trying to waste your time here, you asked a question and I've asked for more information so that I can provide  you with the relevant instructions. Any good antivirus will notify you of various security related events, and security features available for you to use. This helps make the user aware of what is happening on his protected devices, and sends assurances that the software is performing as expected. But don't worry, there are ways to set your notification preferences in Bitdefender.

There are two places to check, Central and Bitdefender installed on your device. For Central, go to https://central.bitdefender.com/ and sign in. There, click on your profile picture in the upper right-hand corner of your screen and select Bitdefender Account. You'll find three tabs there, click on Data & Privacy → Privacy Preferences and untick these two boxes:

Then bring up Bitdefender and disable these two options found in Settings → General:

This should stop any notifications that are not critical.
