How to keep BitDefender from locking out user for minutes?

Question

There are times when I try to use my PC but cannot because BD is running the disk at 100 percent for several minutes. I tried to lower BD priority, but a message says I am not authorized although I am the administrator.   How can I prevent these lockouts?

To add here, check what programs are running at startup, because this could also be a cause. If you have a lot of programs starting up, then there's also Bitdefender looking for updates and scanning something, then this could put a strain on resources.. if this happens at startup, ofc.
