Firewall alert window problem

Hi. It's me and firewall alert mode problem again.

When a user is playing video games in fullscreen, the sudden appearance of an permission alert dialog can cause:

1- The game window to minimize at inappropriate times
2- The user to misclick on the dialog because they were about to move the mouse and click, unintentionally granting (or denying) a permission they otherwise wouldn’t

Talking about this:

What can be done to fix this?
1- Provide an option that allows the user to decide whether the alert window should minimize other windows. To get the user’s attention, a sound (e.g., a beep) can be played instead.
2- If minimizing is still necessary, temporarily disable interaction with the permission dialog (e.g., for a short duration) to prevent accidental clicks.

I can't wait for this problem to not get fixed for 2 years too!

Thanks for flagging this. I understand why this is frustrating, especially in fullscreen while gaming where an Alert Mode prompt can steal focus, minimize the game window, or lead to an accidental allow/block click..

What you’re seeing is tied to how firewall Alert Mode actually works. As you're aware by now, when it's enabled, Bitdefender is supposed to display a prompt each time an app tries to connect to the internet. This is expected behavior, but I agree it can be disruptive in gaming scenarios. This is intended for users who want manual control over network access, after all.

For users who game in fullscreen, the recommended workaround is to enable Game Profile. That profile is specifically designed to avoid interruptions during gameplay and disables Bitdefender alerts and pop-ups while active. If a game is not detected automatically, it can also be added manually to the games list from the profiles settings. That said, there is an important caveat here: if Game Profile is active, alert mode pop-ups may no longer be shown, because Profiles and Alert Mode work in opposite ways. This behavior is by design, since Profiles suppress notifications while Alert Mode is meant to display them.

So, in practice, the current behavior is:

Alert Mode ON = pop-ups are expected to appear.
Game Profile ON = pop-ups are typically suppressed to avoid interrupting fullscreen activity.

Your suggestion does make sense from a usability standpoint, though. Perhaps a better implementation would be to let users choose how Alert Mode behaves during fullscreen sessions, for example by delaying the prompt, avoiding focus stealing, or requiring a deliberate click before accepting input. That would preserve the purpose of Alert Mode without disrupting gameplay. However, I'm unsure if this is something the developers would consider, since these are two distinct settings which serve specific purposes and altering their existing functionality could lead to other inconveniences.. In any case, strictly from my point of view, I wouldn't want Alert Mode prompts while gaming at all..
