After Bitdefender updates, it starts checking all of my 16TB mechanical hdd drives all over again!

After Bitdefender updates, it starts checking all of my 16TB mechanical drives. It takes days for it to check my slow 5400rpm drives. The sound of these drives in a quiet room are driving me crazy! This happened before about a month ago and now today (12.05.2026) it happening again!!!

How to stop this from happening ever again? My drives are clean and there is no need to wear them down each time a major Bitdefender update is released.

Any help please?

What are the settings in your antivirus?

Also when bitdefender is scanning a drive you should see a scan icon in the tray section on the right on your windows taskbar, click on that scan icon and you should be able to stop the scan.

Thank you. I see the tray icon but not the scan icon. This is all I get when I click on tray icon.

If you still do not wish to allow your Bitdefender product to scan your required drive, kindly add the entire drive to the Bitdefender exclusion list by following the steps below:

1) Temporarily disable Bitdefender Protection: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/28557/

2) Set exclusions in Bitdefender Antivirus: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/13427/

3) Re-enable real-time protection in Bitdefender.

Did you check the hidden tray icons? Does the bitdefender widget show a scan in progress?

Are your drives internal drives or external drives (USB or network)?

I dont use bitdefender widget and tray icon didnt change while drives were scanned. My hdd drives are internal drives in my PC, plus I have an internal sata hdd rack with additional drives in it.

I left it scanning and left the room for a day not being able to listen to the hdd noise chatter. And it finished scanning. The problem is now when I reimage the system disk with a backup (and I do that frequently -once or twice a month) then bitdefender starts again to scan all my disk drives.

So what I did is to make a backup of my system drive after the scanning was finished and so it doesnt trigger it again when image is restored.

It's very strange since I have been using bitdefender for over a year and never had such problems before. And now the issue happened twice in a month.

Excluding my drives and disabling Antivirus check on these drives, will be my last resort. :)

Today June, 8th Bitdefender has started again to check all my HDD drives.

Yes, all my drives are still excluded. I have been using Bitdefender on the same machine for over a year now and never had such issues before. So I'm not going to exclude my HDD drives now.

I see.. maybe something has changed following an update. Still, try to exclude them and see how it works.
