Bitdefender missed a zero-day NRD (newly registered domain) - No, it was actually adware

A friend's laptop recently had the Chrome browser "infected" by malicious popups from a Newly Registered Domain (NRD) that escaped Bitdefender detection: [url removed by admin]

That domain needs to be added to BD's blocklist.

Here is what I had to do to fix my friend's Chrome browser:

Open Google Chrome.
Click the three vertical dots (menu) in the top-right corner of the browser window and select Settings.
On the left-hand menu, click Privacy and security.
In the main window, click on Site settings.
Scroll down to the Permissions section and click on Notifications.
Scroll down to the "Allowed to send notifications" section.
Look for the site (or any other strange web addresses you don't recognize).
Click the three vertical dots next to the malicious website and click Remove (or Block).

A Quick Tip for the Future

Once you do this, the popups should stop immediately. To prevent this from happening again, you can
toggle the setting at the top of that same Notifications page to "Don't allow sites to send notifications". This
will stop websites from ever prompting you with those annoying "Allow notifications" popups in the first place.

Such adware domains are probably registered on a daily basis. If we refer to pop-up notifications displayed via browser, no antivirus can supress them. Bitdefender cannot take any direct measures related to this type of notifications, such as adware that you agreed on or something you enabled, like site setting, site notification, redirects in your browser or installed toolbars, extensions or applications. Furthermore, detection doesn't happen because the notifications and pop-ups in this situation do not have anything malicious attached, but if you click on them, they will usually redirect to malicious sites that try to collect your data or install abusive or dangerous software. That's when Bitdefender protection actually kicks in.

I recommend Ublock Origin to block ads, and I also recommend using the Bitdefender Anti tracker extension, to stop tracking cookies. As for getting rid of such notifications, those browser settings are correct. More information on adware, browser redirects and pop-ups can be found here:
