I am getting the above screen. No scans have picked it up. What is it?
Hello,
This popup does not originate from Bitdefender or from Android itself. It is being displayed inside the browser, as you can notice the address bar in the screenshot shows a page associated with front.net. The alarming language about a “critical encryption gap” points to a deceptive scareware message intended to persuade you to press Analyse and potentially download something, subscribe to a service, or provide personal information.
Do not interact with the popup. Close the browser app, then clear your browser history and website data. I would also advise to review the browser’s notification and site permissions and remove any unfamiliar websites. The location of these settings may vary depending on your device type.
You may also close the other open tabs, check the apps list for anything you did not intentionally download, and run another scan for reassurance. A clean scan result is quite possible here because the popup itself may simply be content shown by a website rather than something mailicious installed on the device. Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android scans all apps prior to installing them anyway. But if the popup is related to the browser and doesn't have anything malicious attached to it, it will be displayed regardless if you have a security solution installed or not, because this kind of software doesn't interfere with the browser permissions or notifications setup. However, if the popup redirects to a malicious website that attempts to install anything or collects/steals data without your consent, then Mobile Security defense mechanisms will kick in and block that page.
If the popup returns even when no websites are open, please let me know which browser is being used and whether any recently installed applications appear suspicious.
