Bitdefender Pre-Purchase Question

Question

Hi,

I am considering moving from Avast to BitDefender. The MAIN reason is that Avast won't leave me alone after purchasing. They are always trying to upsell to bigger and better products.

Will bitDefender do this as well?  If so, I might as well stay with Avast.

To answer your question, you should reconsider Bitdefender because they provide the best overall protection in the world. They have been mastering cybersecurity for the past 25 years and received countless awards from independent testing organizations and specialized IT websites.

Sure, you may find cheaper solutions on the market. But you can't beat the value for money Bitdefender has to offer, and its advanced level of security. They have been experimenting with LLMs and AI since 2009, long before it became mainstream. So you can imagine where they are now…

When your Avast license expires, give it a try. There are free trials plus a 30-day refund period, so you have absolutely nothing to lose.😉 A new UI will also arrive soon.

It answered the question, but I waited for a reply and ended up just renewing my Avast App.  Tell me why I should reconsider BitDefender next year when my subscription comes due.

Hello and thanks for considering Bitdefender. I know the answer comes a bit late, but your question was postponed in the moderation queue for some reason, and was later released on the forum. I apologize for that.

Bitdefender can display occasional recommendations or promotional offers (like any other cybersecurity vendor you subscribe to), so I wouldn’t want to tell you that you’ll never see a marketing message. The good news is that, should you not require this kind of communication, these can be largely disabled.

You can go to Settings → General and turn off Special offers and Recommendation notifications in Bitdefender.

The Special offers setting controls in-product notifications about available discounts or offers, while disabling Recommendation notifications prevents pop-ups regarding additional Bitdefender features. Note that the recommendation notfications are not actually trying to "sell" you anything, they are simply raising awareness about security features that are already available in the product you purchased, so this is more of a "security advisor".

For that purpose, some recommendations may still remain visible inside the Bitdefender dashboard, but they should not appear as promotional pop-ups stealing focus.

You can also review the privacy preferences in your Bitdefender Central account if you don’t want to receive promotional communications by email or in-product messaging. There's a special setting for that as well.

Security-related alerts are a separate matter and may still appear when Bitdefender needs to inform you about an actual threat or an important protection event. These can't be turned off.

So, if your main concern is being continually prompted with various messages after subscribing, Bitdefender does provide controls to significantly reduce them. And if you purchase one of the premium plans, you won't really have to worry about that, as they come loaded with everything you need, so there isn't really anything else to sell. And for the record, the commercial communication is usually clustered around special offers and discounts closer to the renewal date, or whenever there are ongoing campaigns that may include the product/suite that you're currently using, so that you can benefit from a better price when extending coverage.
