Incorrect VPN connection indicator on Android

Good evening.

On my smartphone, where I have Bitdefender VPN enabled, it often shows that the VPN is connected, but in reality it isn’t — it’s trying to connect to a network.

This situation can last anywhere from a short to a long time and unfortunately this is a problem because my data remains exposed while I think I’m connected to the VPN, when in fact the VPN isn’t connected.

This problem is not recent. I've noticed it since I started using the VPN on my phone.

Please check this incorrect VPN indication for Android OS.

Thanks for sharing more details about this. Does this happen on the PC as well, or just on your mobile device?
If it was on the PC, I would suspect the TAP-Windows Adapter V9, but since it's happening on your phone, this could have something to do with Android's battery optimization settings, a bad network signal, the "Always-on VPN" setting, or even an issue with the actual app. The first step I would recommend would be to reinstall the app. If this doesn't fix it, check the article below for more information:

What is the exact message shown when it says it’s connected but still trying to connect?
Start with this step: Open Bitdefender VPN and make sure the connection request is allowed when the prompt appears.
After that, try connecting again and tell me if it still stays on connecting.

I don’t see any specific message. Connecting again it still stays on connecting.
But there are some indications.
First, the indicator in the notification shade correctly shows whether the VPN is connected or trying to connect to a network, but this indicator isn’t visible during use.
Next, there’s the VPN icon in the status bar, which doesn’t clearly indicate the VPN’s connection status—whether it’s connected or trying to connect to the network.
And there’s also the app icon in the quick settings panel, which has often been found not to accurately reflect the app’s actual status—that is, it may show that the VPN is connected, but when you open the app’s main window, you’ll find that the VPN is actually disconnected.
