How to check whether a file is actually malware or a false positive?

I would like to verify whether a file is actually malware or a false positive.

It is currently in quarantine. Is it possible to check it safely? I use Bitdefender GravityZone.

You can submit a sample to Bitdefender Labs using the form available at the link below:

False positive reports are corrected as soon as possible once the samples are received.
