Firefox 3.6 And Bitdefender

With a BD AV 2010 up-to-date, I just accessed a couple of pages from the Wall Street Journal web page with Firefox 3.6 and I didn't get any warnings. It's rather strange that you got it and I didn't.

The thing is that, upon installment, Firefox 3.6 seems to keep all old versions of Java Console add-ons. At the beginning, I had them from 6.0.12 onwards, but I disabled all of them except the current version. Have you done that? Maybe this problem is due to old versions of Java add-ons on FF 3.6.

Just something worth checking perhaps.

Thanks for that info, it sounds possible. I did not notice anything like that when I checked add-ons. However, it indicated that Flash reader needed update. I did that, and it still said I needed update. I disabled Flash, but that did not help.

My guess is that it may be buried a bit deeper, and the old rule applies: "never use v.x.y.0 of anything". Right now, I will use 3.5 till they force change.

I just looked at Wall Street Journal via Fire Fox....and also got the "Trojan blocked" warning. No problem with IE8. Tested with Chrome as well -no problem there, either. So I think Andrei is right regarding FF. Just goes to show that FF is not so secure as some people claim.

PS Just checked and Javascript is not enabled at all on my FF (I rarely use it anyway - just to check how my web pages look in a different browser). So the problem with FF lies elsewhere.

Quite strange then. I just checked again and fiddled around the Wall Street Journal website quite a bit and got no warnings again. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have AdBlock Plus enabled and it blocked some ad that your BD signals as bad?

This has happened to me in the last 2 days also. I get the Trojan.JS.PYW when i go to Amazon.com and access the

"Customer Discussions". Bitdefender blocks it everytime but this is irritating and would like to get this resolved.

This seems to be a Firefox situation....

The trojan comes up if I"m using my Firefox browser. It does not come up on Internet Explorer with that same link.

Just wanted to add that.

I tried the same link in Amazon this morning and I'm getting the same warning that Bitdefender has blocked Trojan.js.pyw.

I've also made sure my Bitdefender is updated this morning.

Fortunately, Firefox will downgrade OK, some programs will not without an uninstall.

I just noticed that the problem has been posted on the French forum. See the topic below, if you happen to understand French.

As it says there, in the two cases where the users actually mentioned what BD software they had, they had Bitdefender Internet Security 2010. Do you guys have BD Internet Security 2010 or BD Antivirus 2010? Maybe there's some sort of conflict between BIS 2010 and FF 3.6.

Andrei, I've got BD Anti Virus 2010, the same build as you. I followed your advice and added Add Block Plus. I also added No ****** for extra security. Now the BD warning no longer appears. I think it must be some ad or ****** causing the problem with BD. And I haven't had to downgrade my FF! Thank you, Andrei!

The two users with problems that responded to the French forum moderator's questions about system configuration and stuff ... they have Windows 7. Do you guys have Windows 7? Maybe it's a Seven issue with FF 3.6 and it reflects on BD.

I am using Windows XP Professional with BD AV 2010.

I recently downgraded my Firefox and am no longer having problems.

I will try Adblock Plus and No ****** if I have to upgrade in the future.

I have Windows 7. UAC is at "default", which warns if program tries to change something, but see VMILL's post; had the problem on XP, if so 7 does not seem to enter in. I think UAC arrived with Vista, which I did not use. The Firefox forum seems to have many additional 3.6 posts that are not related to this problem. They may need some fixes.

The Firefox forum has another person who has the problem on XP, so that pretty much rules out Win 7 as part off the problem.

As far as I know, Firefox 3.6 is always being used when the problem appears. No report of this with 3.5

BD said the file was Trojan.js.PYW in c:\documents and settings\bill\local settings\temp\aph23.tmp. I opened the subdirectory, couldn't find the named file, so I deleted everything in \temp\. The logs show that BD blocked the thing several times when he was looking at stuff. (He just hit "ok" a couple times before telling me.)

However, when I logged him out and logged into my account (expert BitDefender mode vs. novice mode on his account), I went to the same page via the same route and did not get the virus message and nothing added to the log.

Perhaps it is not just Firefox 3.6, but also has to do with the mode in which BitDefender is operating. This machine runs XP Pro, SP3.
