Hi there , im not sure if this is the right section but..

My system is being constantly port scan, 2 or more port scans detected by fire wall.. /useing BD total security 2010/..I wonder what steps i could take to make my self less visible on the Internet ../other than proxy servers/ or what i could do to add more security to my set up?

My concerns are that if some one is so determed to port scan me for weeks eventually weakness could be found its just matter of time.

Thanx for any help or tips you could provide me with.

Port scans are normal to some degree. For instance, if your are running a server application on your system, to which other computers can connect and communicate, then a port scanning might occur when the other systems try to connect to you. A very common example of such applications are P2P applications (torrents, DC clients, etc...), web servers (like Apache), ftp servers (like FileZilla) and so on.

Also, Windows itself acts like a server within the local network, through the NetBIOS protocol (for File and Printer Sharing, for instance), though this protocol is automatically blocked by BitDefender Firewall, depending on your settings.

As long as BitDefender detects the port scans, then it blocks them, in which case you have nothing to worry about. Once a port scan is detected, the source IP is temporarily banned (fully blocked) by BitDefender firewall, thus stopping any kind of response to it.
