[resolved]Threat That Keeps Coming Even After Solving It

For some reason I always keep scanning everyday to check if this threat is still there, and its still there even after Bitdefender tell me that it got solved.

I was thinking that this will be solved each time i update my Bitdefender, but for some reason the threat is still there and I don't know that else to so but post

this threat and ask for help to solve this problem in anyway possible.

The two threats name are : Cookie.Atdmt and Cookie.BS.serving-Sys

Speaking of cookie detections that keep on returning ... I have a few that do just that for a few days now:

Cookie.Apmebf, Cookie.AdBureau, Cookie.Mediaplex

I know they're nothing to worry about, but I'm getting sick of seeing them show up in my scans. How can I get rid of these detections once and for all? Thank you.

Hello AndreiRC,

Cookies don't just appear in your system, but they are downloaded when requested by different websites that you visit. As I recommended in the topic that Cristi pointed to, you can try using a browser which has the option of automatically deleting all cookies once the browser is closed.

Another solution might be to set your browser to reject cookies from certain sites (add to that list the sites which stored the detected cookies).

Also, the simplest solution would be just to ignore them. When you make scheduled scans, just delete them and that's it (or, periodically, you can use the browser to delete all stored cookies). Cookies don't represent a high risk to your system's security.

Thanks for your reply. I will try to attempt to block these cookies through the browser options.

I have however another query: I made a search a couple of days ago for these 3 cookies and the first one, Cookie.Apmebf, was mentioned on the Panda Security website as being able to hijack the browser and causing redirections to other websites, causing data loss, blocking access to antivirus websites.

Since that information was from 2006, plus since it was about a cookie (can't really see how a cookie can do that), I am thinking that those particular pieces of information about the Apmebf cookie are false. Could you please confirm that for me though, if you can? I'd really appreciate it.

The info presented there is correct, but it's just a little weird explained.

Cookies are small text files stored in the browser on the user's computer, when visiting web pages.

However, keep in mind that the misuse of cookies could threaten an individual's privacy.

Afterwards, there are exemplified some cases in which malicious software can use these cookies (as per the last statement, which I also quoted). So, basically, the cookies are safe, but can be used by malicious software. How exactly those effects are achieved, I can't tell, because I don't have detailed info about how this type of cookies look like and what info they store.

However, in the worst case scenario, the BitDefender Realtime Protection should react if anything tries to use those cookies in malicious ways.
