[solved] Updater Not Working On Win7

edited October 2010 in Old topics

I have two PC's that I installed BD2011 on Aug 18. The Vista PC is working with no problems at all. The Win7 PC will not update. When I go the update tab it states "Bitdefender update service is unavailable". I checked the proxy settings under the general tab and they are the same as on the Vista PC(blank). The settings tab under update is also blank but it will not allow me to do anything or enter anything under this tab. I uninstalled 2011 and reinstalled and I have the same problem. I have sent this problem to technical support but no reply as of yet. Any suggestions?

  • Hello,

I have search for the correspondences you had with us and found the ticket ID: 201008191004243. I took ownership of the ticket and any future troubleshoot will be done via email. Please check your email associated with your forum account for instructions on how to do that.

    Looking forward to your answer!

  • Got the e-mail and will reply shortly

  • I have taken all I am willing to take. I have used this forum and the phone cust sev, and I still can not update my win7. I have deleted every malware program I have, cleaned the register numerous times and it never updates. Daniel, you told me a week ago to send you some info and you would take care of my problem personally and over e-mail and I have yet to hear anything back about my problem. The guy on the phone wouldn't even stay on long enough to make sure his solution worked which it obviously didn't. Here is my ticket number[Ticket ID:201008191004243]

    Hello ssh8on,

Did you previously have BitDefender 2010 (or earlier) on that system? If you did, what product did you exactly have?

Also, have you used the BitDefender Uninstall Tool to remove BitDefender before installing it again?

I'm asking this because I see in the report that you submitted that th update service is not registered correctly, therefore it's not available. A reinstallation of the product should fix this problem, but since you say that you already tried that, I assume you didn't use the Uninstall Tool.

Please download it from here: http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...l_tool_2011.exe

Run it (with administrative rights), then restart your system. Afterwards, please check Windows Services (open Start menu, type services and hit Enter) and look for any services starting with BitDefender in their names. See if any remain there and post here if there are.

If no BitDefender services are still active, try reinstalling BD2011 and check if the problem persists.

  • Cris,

Did everything just as you requested and updater is now running at last. The services check did show two items and they were removed by this unload tool. I did run a Bitdefender unload tool the other day but it was not the same as the one you hooked me up with today. I did run the Argente register cleaner before I tried to download BD2011is today just to be on the safe side. I also ran the unload tool even though I no longer had BD2011 on my system and it still worked fine obviously. I am showing a full 1 year license also. I am finally a happy camper again.

I am happy that your problem is now solved. :)

Could you please tell me exactly what BitDefender version did you previously have and what uninstall tool you used (the link)? Maybe I can try to see if your original problem (incorrectly registered services) can be reproduced. Thank you.

  • Hey Cris,

I had BD2010is on a Win7 PC that I upgraded from Vista. I originally uninstalled 2010 using the Windows uninstall tool under the start-computer tabs. On later uninstalls of 2011 is I used a tool that I accessed through another post on this forum but it was not the one I used yesterday but I am not for sure which post I got it off of. I aslo did an uninstall on 2011 is using the start-programs-bitdefender folder-uninstall and it did not help me either. I am at work presently and can not take the time to try and find the other post that I got the uninstall tool from but I will try and find it tonight after I get home.

Question, every once in a while the Bitdefender icon on the lower far right(the little tiny one) will go gray and say I am not protected but when I open up the dashboard it says everything is working properly. Which one is right when this happens. It happened yesterday after the first 2011 update but cleared up with a restart.

    Thanks again, Scot

The icon might react like that after product updates (not signature updates). Product updates are the ones which usually request a system restart in order to fully complete the update.

This happens because, on larger updates, the security service is restarted (in order to correctly work with the new files) and so the tray icon might react like the protection is disabled. But in a few moments, everything should come back to normal on it's own, with or without a system restart.

Please note that even if the product signals that the protection is disabled for a few seconds, actually the protection is disabled for a far less period of time, and so it doesn't pose a security threat. However there might be a small delay into synchronizing the security service with the interface (including the tray icon). This might also happen on system logon (after you start your computer, you might also notice that BitDefender reports that's disabled for a few moments, but this should correct itself in a few seconds).

Also please note that although product updates require a system restart to fully complete, that restart is not required at that specific moment. So, for instance, if you are busy doing something that can't be interrupted by a system restart, you can choose to "Restart later". This will make BitDefender work just like before the update, with the old files. Once you manually make a system restart, BitDefender will automatically complete the update.

    Cris.
