False Positive... Svchost.exe...?

I have installed BitDefender 2011 for a couple of days and yesterday I started to get this message appearing constantly every 30 seconds:

"svchost.exe has been terminated because it was deemed harmful by Active Virus Control"

I ran a scan and nothing came up.

Is this a false positive?

If it is and nothing to worry about, how do I stop the reporting as it is driving me mad constantly my attention being drawn to the bottom right corner of the screen.

Hello joeras,

It's not a false positive,something is injecting in your svchost and BitDefender is just seeing that svchost has been modified.

Besides BitDefender are you running with any other protection programs?

If not then you can send me by PM a set of logs as described in this KB article:

It now seems to have stopped doing it. I am not sure, but I think it may have done an update, so maybe that sorted it out?

It now says:

Virus signatures: 6388919

Engine Version: 7.33933

So if they came out recently it must have done an update. In the meantime I hope it stays the way it is and those pesty every 30 seconds popups gone.

Almost forgot this one: if you have an outdated database then the antivirus will give false alarms so this is most likely what happened in your case.

It's back again with a vengeance - started earlier today and won't go away.

Please PLEASE help, this is driving me nuts and I have to uninstall, in which case I wasted my money buying this.

I think that worked OK, although I may have uploaded one twice, but you should have both.

Well, it's back again!!!

For a while it went away... then when it came back I could reboot and it would be gone. Have rebooted more times than I can count.

NOW it is back PERMANENTLY!!!

Rebooting makes no difference. The message "scvhost.exe has been terminated..." appears twice every miniutes, just on and off and cycles continuously.

Can't tell you how annoying it is to have your eye drawn to it constantly while working on my computer. Getting latest updates? Useless.

PLEASE help me. I really feel I've wasted my money on BitDefender and should have gone elsewhere. Too much to ask for a refund?
