Bitdefender Internet Security 2010 Does Malware Too?

Sorry if I seem a little out of date hah, I was always brought up with the information that you need an antivirus and a malware scanner like spybot SnD or Mbam. Is that not the case anymore? Does BD do everything (and does it do everything well?) Can I drop Mbam?

There are the things which can be taken into account for selecting any security suite.

1) Detection Rates

2) Protection Technologies e.g Signature Based, Heuristics/ Behavioral Scanning etc.

3) Protection Features e.g Firewall, Antispam, Parental Control, Antirootkit,

4) Ability to remove infection traces completely

5) False Positives

6) Additional Features offered e.g Tuneup, Backup etc

There can be more things added, but by considering above said, you can eliminate the alternatives.

However I still use MBAM (free version) from time to time, I guess it will no longer be useful in a few months, when I move to the latest BD's version...

I found spybot very useful seven years ago, I do not know his ranking today.

ONT is right, a security suite is enough, provided that your data is updated.

Rule1:

One and only one firewall

one and only one antivirus

(to do differently could create havoc on your security)

One spyware (I had two a few years ago)

Nowadays, security suites have the three products (more or less useful?) and I agree with ONT, no need to have anything else - at least you can launch a free scan online with another product.

Antispywares could live together without registrer basis problems a few years ago, however the system becomes quickly heavier, overloaded with too many non necessary stuff.

So...

1) only one security suite.

2) deinstall every software you will not use within a mid-term range. (not for safety reasons but to boot and to run fast the computer...)

3) deactivate every software you will not use within a short-term range. (ibid)

4) install windows and other soft updates.

5) Consider caution "think twice before we act" is the first and the most important anti-malware process.

I do not like "additionnal features" that could make the soft heavier to use, consume too much memory, well, if we find it useful... and sofware producers add a lot of gimmicks...
