Internet Browsing Speed Slowdown-bdis 2011
Hello,
I am new to Bitdefender.Previously i was using Kaspersky Internet security for past 3 years since KIS 2009 and i never had any problems till the day i uninstalled it(yesterday).I bought a 5 user pack of BIS 2010 in a local store in Mumbai,India.
When i installed the BIS 2011 i have been facing internet slow down in my Desktop as well as my laptop which is connected to the same internet connection with a belkin router.
when i turn off my desktop computer browsing speed is good in my laptop.So here i assume that Bitdefender consumes all my bandwidth & the net speed.
Note:my laptop still has KIS 2011 with 3 days remaining.
I even face a lil bit of delay in my system startup & system slowdown while working on heavy applications like maya,after effects.
However my download speed is not affected since i download with IDM.
- CPU (type/speed) - Intel core i7 870
- Amount of installed memory -8 GB (2 x 4gb )
- OS (XP, Vista, 7) - 7 ultimate 64bit
- Service Packs and are you current with all MS critical updates - all Important updates are installed
- Architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) -64 bit
- Web Browser (IE, Firefox, etc.) - Firefox
-Windows firewall turned off
-Previously installed KIS 2011 (updated from 2010)
Thanks,
Hari

To be clear, you have uninstalled KIS 2009 from your desktop and installed BDIS 2011, is that correct? And your laptop ONLY has KIS 2011 installed, is that correct?
If I understand your setup correctly, when you uninstalled KIS 2009 from your desktop, did your use the KIS uninstall tool (clean removal tool) before installing BDIS? If not, I would suggest using the BD Uninstall Tool to first do a clean removal of BDIS and then use the KIS Uninstall Tool to completely remove KIS. The link to the KIS Uninstall Tool can be found HERE.
Then, re-install BDIS.
Awaiting your reply,0 -

Hi,
Please note that it's a must to use the specific uninstall tool when you remove any security solution. Thanks to ONT you can check the topic below for a list of all uninstall tools for the most known software:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=21845
Even if you have removed KIS using Revo please save then run the Kaspersky uninstall tool. If you use Windows Vista/7 right click on the file and select Run as Administrator.0 -

Hey Olli,
Thanks for the reply .I will try this tonight as soon as when i reach home.
Wch one of these is a permanent solution ? Bcoz i have brought 5 user pack & giving it to my family members across various locations (here in india) and they are not tech savy and i will be screwed if their Internet usage bill increases as they have limited bandwidth plans.Hope you understand my situation.
Solution 1:
- Restart the computer (Windows Start button - Turn Off - Restart);
- Press the 'F8' key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load; you need to press 'F8' until you will be displayed a text menu;
- Select 'SAFE MODE' in the text menu and press 'Enter'.
- Wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click 'OK' to acknowledge.
5. Browse to the C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011 folder;
6. Search for httproxy.dll and rename it with httproxy.dl_;
7. Restart the computer in Normal mode.
or
Solution 2:
Restart Windows in Safe Mode and rename the file "bdpredir.dll" into bdpredir.old located by default in:
C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011
Restart the PC0 -

For start did you look under the Activity tab to see exactly which process is occupying the most bandwidth and post here the results.
Also go in BitDefender ->Update module-> Settings tab and uncheck : Enable update sharing (P2P).
Hit Apply to save the changes.
Reboot the PC and check whether the problem persists.0 -

Done this and got the exact same problem as 2 other fellow members.

Whenever I download an application, Bitdefender Internet Security 2011 scans the entire file before the download/save dialog appears. Sometimes I cancel the download midway and close the browser. But Bitdefender continues to buffer (download) the file in the background. As a result my connection speed gets slow. I have to restart my PC to use internet again. Why Bitdefender does not recognize that the application (in this case browser) which has initiated the download process is closed and stop buffering. How to fix this? I don't want to turnoff http scanning. Will this be corrected in upcoming update? My OS is Vista 64 bit Home Premium.
Instead my OS is Windows Ultimate 64 bit.0 -
Make that 3 other members. I've still more than 200 days to run on my multi license and I think I'll dump BD and buy something else. My system is crippled and internet browsing is a joke thanks to BD being such a resource hog and scanning everything over and over again.
I had been running 2009 with all updates and everytime it updated the system seems to get worse and more unstable. I keep my system clean and do regular maintenance. In desperation I installed BD 2011 looking to solve all the problems 2009 was causing. BD 2011 is even worse! A false positive ripped out my video card drivers and I had to reinstall them. I've been using BD since 2006, so I'm reasonably familiar with its clunky workings, but this is unbelievably bad now. Currently in the midst of a deep system scan that has been running for over nine hours and it says I still have more than 12 hours to go. I believe it, the green line scan indicator is showing about 40% done. Meanwhile it keeps starting an unsolicited and unscheduled Full System Scan and as soon as I close that down it starts it again. After five shutdowns it seems to have decided to leave me alone for a while.
Just before installing 2011, I ran a deep system scan with 2009 (fully updated remember) and my system was clean. So far in this Deep System Scan 2011, it's showing I have two viruses. I believe these will turn out to be false positives also. Hope I get to see the logfile as my default browser is FF and I read that BD doesn't play nicely with FF.
And yes I have all Windows Firewall and security turned off. I'm Running XP Pro. Duel core with 4 gigs of RAM.
You have built a piece of junk BD.
PS I had to pause the scan so that I could preview my post and post it!0 -

Its good (even in worst situation) to know that i have some company with this problem. " />
And what now ? I dont think BD gonna help us out. " /> Its been 3 days that i opened my mail due to this problem.but how long ?
BD has to do something.I regret changing KIS to BD now.0 -

Does misery really feel better in a crowd?
Left the Deep System Scan running overnight and it's finally completed although I got up to check it at 3 am and another of those darn Full System Scans had started itself up. Shut down and set it to never start and it seems to have stayed away. BTW at 3 am I had 5 viruses listed in the progress window.
Results of the scan: No idea really. BD opened the logfile in Dreamweaver as code! Will not open in a browser although I have IE8 and FF installed. The finish window tells me it had deleted one object - doesn't say what and I have no way of finding out. It says there are 6 unresolved items. Can't find out waht they are. This is disgraceful programming. It was instructed to quarantine everything, but the programme ignored the options I set.
What happened to the supposed other 4 (possibly 6) viruses? Haven't got a clue and BD isn't going to tell me.
This is not good enough.0 -
