Is Asdict.dat Good Or Bad?

Options

I have this both on my desktop and also in Windows/system folder. A quick Internet search came up with lots of "this is a troigen...virus..bad dude"...etc.

I ran BD scanner and it says it's AOK ?

Is asdict.dat a valid Windows file and if not...how do I get rid of it ?

Running Win 7 Pro 64bit

Thanks....Tim

  • I can tell you that I do not have a file by that name on my Win7 Pro x64 laptop.

I would suggest uploading it to MalwareCity for investigation.

    Hi

@what does "Please archive the files..." mean

Put the suspected files in ZIP format and protect it with the password as mentioned there.

    @do I need a Thicket ID ?

No need, rather you'll get "SampleID" after submitting the files.

You can also scan suspected files from

    http://3.virscan.org/

    www.virustotal.com

  • Thanks to both Gary and ONT for their comments however, I have a better and quicker suggestion:

Go to our Malware forums HERE and submit your request.

To archive a file (password protected) you need to use either WinRAR or WinZIP. Both software are shareware, you can use them for free.

    WinRAR:

    http://www.win-rar.com/download.html

    WinZIP:

    http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm

I have included below instructions on how to create an archive using WinRAR and password-protect it. When you have the sample archived, upload it HERE

    1. Go to http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar380.exe

    2. Save the file on your computer.

    3. Run it and install WinRAR on your computer ( a default installation requires not additional settings upon installation - in other words you can simply click on NEXT until you finish the setup ).

    4. Locate again the infected files ( it's best to run another scan to be certain that the files are still in the same location )

    5. When you find the files right click on the file and choose "Add to archive..." from the menu.

    6. A new window will be displayed with the menu of WinRAR.

    7. You will see the name of the archive ( normally the name is the same as the file/folder name only with the extension .ZIP or .RAR ).

    8. Choose RAR as archive format

    9. Go to Advanced tab and click on "Set Password..."

    10. Type the password "infected" in both fields then click on OK

    11. Click again on OK to create the archive.

    12. Repeat the steps for each and every file you find suspicious/infected and can not be resolved by BitDefender.

    Kind regards,
