Full Scan Runs Slow And Hogs Processor

Options

I have just upgraded from Dit defender internet security 2010 to total security 2011. Now when running a full scan the scan runs at between 1 and 20 files per second. Previously it ran at circa 300 files per second. How do I resolve. I am running windows XP. when running scan vssev hogging 60% CPU.

Any thoughts on how to improve?

I am running version 14.0.24.330

  • Does your PC hardware meet the minimum system requirements for BDTS 2011?

    - What is the CPU type and speed?

    - How much RAM is installed?

    - Are you trying to run other programs while BD is scanning?

    - Does your WinXP have SP3 installed?

    - Do you have any other security programs installed?

    CPU is AMD Sempron 3000+

    1.5G Ram

Pleanty of free hard drive space.

No other programs sunning at the time just slow. Only other security program was BD 2010 internet security which was uninstalled before instatllation of 2011 total security.

  • When you uninstalled BDIS 2010, did you use the BD uninstall tool? If not, I would suggest you run it to remove everything BD related and try re-installing BDTS 2011. You can download the uninstall tool from HERE. It will remove all versions of BD.

If the problem persists, then it will be time to generate some dump files for tech support to investigate.

tried unitstalling, cleaning register and then re installing but see no improvement in performance. I'm at a bit of a loss as what to do next!

  • Since you've now done a clean uninstall and re-install, the next step would be to generate system dump files and get them to tech support for investigation. Please follow these steps to generate and submit the files:

    1. First please unplug the Internet cable from your computer or disable the Wireless adaptor if you are using one. This prevents the supporttools files from being automatically uploaded.

    2. Click on Start and then choose My Computer/Computer.

    3. Browse to:

    C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011

    - considering that BitDefender was installed on the default C partition

    4. Double-click on the supporttool.exe file - if you are using Vista or Windows 7, right-click on the supporttool application file and select Run as Administrator

    5. Click on Next, wait a few minutes for the progress bar to complete and then click on Finish

    6. A file will be created on your desktop. Please move it to a location of your choice (i.e. move it on your c:\ drive)

    7. Reconnect your internet cable (only after you have moved the file to the new location)

    8. Upload the created file HERE

    9. Include a detailed description of the issue you are encountering and a screenshot of the error message, if there is one.

    10. Send a PM (Private Message) with the download link to DanyDan of tech support. Include a link to this topic and give him as much detail as possible about your PC - exact symptoms, hardware (CPU type/speed, Memory installed, etc.), OS and version, 32-bit or 64-bit, any other security software installed or previously uninstalled. Any other relevant configuration information.

It may take several days for them to analyze the files and respond depending on their workload, so please be patient.
