Js.obfuscated.gen On Facebook

Last night when I logged to my facebook account a few seconds after while I was on the

main facebook page Bitdefender popped out with the alert that it blocked

JS.Obfuscated.Gen, some kind of keylogger that steals personal data and passwords.

It didn't make any damage to my account, or computer but to make sure I cleared private

data and cache. I'm using google chrome and Bitdefender Total security

2010. and I must say that I'm very satisfied with bitdefender, I'm having it for 2 years now

and never let me down.

I've also searched on internet about this virus and I've found several

reports and comments of people having same problem last night and today, all

using bitdefender virus protection so I wonder if it was false possitive.

Same happened to me just a minutes ago. My anti-virus program reported that it had cleaned this specific virus from internet traffic. The origin of the virus was facebook, and it said that the file that was tried to be downloaded to my computer was photo.php?fbid=1570925627300..., which was the ending of the photo album I was at the moment. Oh, and I have F-secure anti-virus, so it's not about just bitdefender.

BD just blocked a malware or destroyed it?

Check your quarantine area to send the dubious file to BD labs if you find it within. It could be a false positive but possibly a malware as well.

Some malwares travel with Facebook as well...

However, I don't have F-Secure, a competitor, please look for quarantine treatment or questions on their forum, not here.

A tip: we should only have:

1 and only 1 firewall

1 and only 1 antivirus

1 antispyware

Bitdefender blocked it and there's nothing in the quarantine.

I set up the protection to highest levels where possible for maximum protection.

I think the malware was on the web page, probably in the java ****** and hasn't reached the operating system.

When I logged in facebook I didn't clicked on some link, or picture, or anything. The alert window just popped out immediately.

I'm not worried that my PC is infected, just wondered what it was, a false possitive or really a malware, and to see if other people experienced the same problem. To my oppinion it was probably malware cause bitdefender has really small percentage of false possitives.

I've also contacted facebook support to inform them about it and I'm still waiting for response.

Good move!

Keep in mind false positives can have a generic name given by antimalware products (trojan wundo, etc.) that does not make it clear to check whether it is a malware or not. At least BD blocked the suspect action.

You can check again your Facebook pages today with caution...

It is no longer necessary to click somewhere to get a nasty program.

A tip against keylogger: to input any numbers and characters first, before the true figures, then with the mouse suppress the wrong figures. The process is tedious but a cautious one.

Tell us when you get Fb's answer.
