Hello mercol,
I have sent you an email containing a removal tool for this type of virus.
Please reply back when you can and let me know what happened.
I will be grateful too, for the given utility. And why it is not a part of an antivirus?
Is your system infected with this virus?
This is a MBR infection which is not that simple to remove.
For the moment we have created a removal tool and the removal will be implemented in the product soon.
Not quite, I have been doing tests, and would like to have similar tools, and from BitDefender.

I too have this wonderful virus on my system. Can you help with this.
Thanks
I have created this topic where you find the removal tool along with instructions on how to run it:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=26540
When I attempt to run this, I get a message that says "The service cannot accept control messages at this time." What do I do? Thank you.
Please post a screenshot showing the error message along with a couple of more info:
-> the name of your operating system
->did you run the tool in normal mode or safe mode?
->do you have administrative rights on that PC?
Conducted test with by the rootkit, the system after the treatment of your utility is not loaded, you can comment?

You asked whether if it can disinfect a MBR and you did not reefer to TDL.
TDL at this moment can be disinfected only using that removal tool.
Your question was general like: Can it delete viruses?
You asked whether if it can disinfect a MBR and you did not reefer to TDL.TDL at this moment can be disinfected only using that removal tool.

The removal will be implemented in all BitDefender versions, including 2012.
After reading the above forums on this Rootkit MBR I am in addition infected on my primary Hdd. However in attempting to disinfect using Bitdefender and Panda cloud I have damaged the system boot and am unable to boot the primary. I have tried to perform a system repair with recovery console to no avail. When examing the Hdd from another laptop with bitdefender installed it sees the rootkit and correctly blocks it. Is there any way to remove it from a nonbootable primary so that I can copy important data to another hard drive without bringing the virus with it?
The simplest way to repair the MBR is to connect only the affected HDD and follow the below steps:

Did you run the removal from the pinned topic?
Disinfection has entered the product.
You can update your BitDefender and run a scan to disinfect the MBR.
Yes it is, BitDefender treats entry in the MBR, my video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VltJlzSqajQ
And here a new virus of the family - Trojan.MBRlock, punches proactive protection BitDefender, and writes itself into the MBR, the sample sent to the laboratory BitDefender, to add to the database.
Disinfection for Trojan.MBRlock will enter the product in a few days.
Have sent the answer "the file is infected and will be detected as Trojan.Boot.Lockmbr.B."
Then spent a little research, EMET 2.1 at maximum settings protection system, does not modify the MBR, can your experts will be interesting.
Disinfection for Trojan.MBRlock will enter the product today.
Why after I scan with the most recent version of Bit Defender the antivirus tell me the action taken was ignored (limited rights). What does this mean? The antivirus coul not remove the malware because it has limited righs? How can I put the necesary righs to the antivirus to eliminate that malware?
The scanner will start a scan with limited rights if you have turned on the User Account Control in Windows or you are not the system admin.
If don't want to stop the UAC in Windows, you can manually open BitDefender with elevated rights if you right click on the BitDefender shortcut icon and select Run as administrator.
After this you can start the scan.
i have the same problem, as i am not able to delete the root virus as mentioned in the first page ....kindly help me in deleting the virus...
