Unidentified Internet Traffic...

I am worried since recently i am getting unidentified internet traffic in and out of my computer, i always update my totalsecurity 2011 and deep scan each day. It has happened several times and is a recent problem. I use aggressive setting on the antivirus and report on the fire wall. I just allow the chrome to access internet and today with only chrome on allow the internet was suddenly downloading at 400kb+ and i was not doing anything just reading a page it was like that for 2 mins until i noticed, then i checked the firewall activity and none of the process were reporting any in or out traffic and after 10 secs of me checking the processes in the activity section, the in/out traffic it stopped.

I am worried, since maybe i am hacked and bitdefender 2011 is not detecting anything... very dissapointing... or maybe is something new i dont know or someone is checking on my pc with with an undetectable method...

adding to this problem ive been using bitdefender a long time i know how to monitor traffic etc with it so this is definitely weird.

The first task would be for you to identify the source of the "unidentified internet traffic." For that, you will need a network protocol analyzer like Wireshark. Without the source identified, it's impossible to know if the data traffic is legitimate or not.

Then the firewall activity interface in bitdefender is not fully trustable, in other words, there might be some legitimate processes that do no show in the activity list while they are sending or receiving?

and should i be worried?

Until you identify the source of the traffic, it's all guesswork and supposition.

Well i just wanna know all the the possible reasons why bitdefender wont recognize traffic in he process section so i can worry or not. I wont be checking the source since bitdefender shows only traffic and dont show which process in that case. I wont be downloading additional software since i prefer to do a full format before waiting to happen again... In other words if someone can tell me the possible reasons and if should worry so i can to do a full format and change all my passwords, that will take me days to do that...

You can try to check from "Firewall Activity" and "Application Rules" and also from Logs. Also you can check from Monitor tab by seeing what applications/processes are currently running.

To avoid from hacking etc, I keep the following settings in Firewall

Stealth Mode: ON

Block Port Scan: checked

Monitor Wi-Fi Notifications: checked

Internet Connection Sharing: OFF

But you'll definitely get detailed reply from Technical Department.

Also did you download any thing meanwhile?
