I picked up the virus; "Trojan.Fakealert.CKZ" BitDefender did not stop it but did detect it on Deep Scan. However, BitDefender could not remove it. BitDefernder customer support told me they would have a fix in a day or so. The will email the fix to me but I must have an uninfected computer to receive it.
The virus disables all programs and all browsers. No email or web access left. Also the Restore manager will not load up so once the OS loads up it cannot be restored to an earlier date.
I found that by pressing the F1 key at startup I could access the Restore Manager before Windows loaded up. It is probably safe mode access. Anyway by using the F1 key access I was able to restore the system to a date prior to the infection.
I am awaiting the "fix" from BitDefender and will run it when it arives. This is a nasty virus.
