Unauthorized Change To Windows

Since installing Bitdefender two days ago, when Windows boot_s it shows an error stating "An unauthorized change has been made to Windows." It requires that I boot in a very limited usage mode and verify my copy of windows online. The Microsoft verification does not run properly and then my computer is bricked. This happened only after I installed Bitdefender and does not occur if I either uninstall it or boot Windows without Bitdefender running on start-up. The only other option is to run Bitdefender with system32 as an exclusion, and that seems ridiculous. There is no point in running antivirus software if system32 is an exclusion.

How can I prevent this from happening? What other information is needed to solve this? If this is an old topic that I was unable to find elsewhere on the boards, please redirect me to the appropriate thread.

  • Same problem here, the only way I could get around this was to restart the PC using the last known good configuration . Absolutely ridiculous! I seem to get this problem after an update that requires a reboot.

Not that impressed with 2012, doesn't offer a scheduled scan and you don't get notified of an update that require a system reboot - you have to go in and look at the events, surely thats a critical message that should be brought to the users attention? Seriously thinking of going back to 2011 until 2012 works properly!

  • Hello,

Do you use other security solution on the same PC where you try to install BitDefender ? Can you post a screenshot with the error message you receive ?

Please follow the steps below and send me the generated log file:

    1. Download this file:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/files/Knowledge...ile/sysdump.exe

    2. Locate and open 'Sysdump.exe'

    3. A command prompt window will appear on your screen. Please note that the information gathering process can take several minutes therefore please wait until the window disappear by itself.

    4. The result will be the file called 'SYSDUMP.TAR'

    5. When you have the sysdump.tar please upload it HERE

    6. Include a DETAILED description of the issue you encounter: reproduce the steps you take until the issue occur and, if possible, enclose a screenshot of any error message you receive.

    7. Send me a PM (Private Message) with the download link and one for the topic you started.

    Looking forward to your answer!

    Kind regards,

I too am having this problem. Unauthorized Changes To Windows

I must add that I have never updated any windows. I always switch this option off and leave my Vista as it was first installed.

I have never had any problem doing this and its only ever happened since I installed Bifdefender Internet Security 2012 in the last few days.

I have downloaded and dumped the TAR file you requested and have uploaded it Here

  • Hi everyone,

Came across this problem and this forum a couple of days ago and I appeared to have found a fix. I had this problem with two 32bit Vista computers with Bitdefender 2012. I uninstalled bitdefender 2012 and updated Vista to SP2 on both machines then re-installed and everything worked fine. The other computers on the network I maintain were windows 7 and a couple more Vista pc's but the other Vista PC's were already on SP2, and Windows 7 had SP1 installed. Hope it works for others!

  • Hi

    Thank you for posting this.

As you can see from this link, Vista Service Pack 2 is a "must" before installing Bitdefender 2012
