I am incredibly frustrated. Last night, my bitdefender said it had removed a trojan. I hit ok and it continued to scan my computer. I tried to get onto a game and my computer said it needed an application to be able to open. I paused the scan and rebooted my computer. Then bitdefender did not work (same message- it needed an application to open) as did most other things on my computer- itunes, games, word, etc. Here is where life got worse. I googled bitdefender customer service and called the first number i saw. It turned out to not be bitdefender but some other pc group from india (pccare247-- I googled the phone number after the call to find out). I had asked if I was talking with bit defender and they said they handled tech support for bitdefender. I allowed them to use remote viewing of my computer and was told I had a trojan needed a certified microsoft technician to remove it. They told me the charge would be $400 . I said no way. I told them I would contact a technician. I found the actual bitdefender number and spoke with a rep. She sent me a program to give bitdefender more info but I couldn't open it up. She said she would put an expedite message to tech support and I would hear from them in 24-48 hours. I called back this morning and the rep tried to help me start the computer in safe mode but I still get not get into bitdefender files. He said I had to wait for the tech support to get back to me.
I don't know what has happened to this computer. If it is a trojan, why didn't bitdefender stop it? And why does it take a day or two to get an answer from tech support? Fortunately, I have a lap top that I can work from or else I would be really stuck.
