I cannot remove the check mark in the "custom" box. It will not allow me to select default or allow changing the strength of the settings. What is wrong?

Performed uninstall re-install, everything is fine now. However, you have an explanation on how some of the files became corrupted? Thanks!
It appears that the internet connection got lost during the product update and some files could not be overwritten.
