Eicar Does Not Pop Up Warning

Dear Forum,

I'm current evaluating Bitdefender Total Security 2012 and I am worried that it does not warn me about Eicar when I attempt the downloads from eicar.org.

Microsoft Essential Security and Kingsoft PC doctor, both free, detect and remove this problem.

I disabled both of the above and there are no warnings and no logs.

I am using Maxthon 3 browser on Win 7 pro 64-bit.

The AV toolbar seems not to work. Am I supposed to see tool tips when I hover over links in search engines?

Any suggestions?

I tried the HTTPS tests and they worked. There must be something wrong with the eicar site.

I'm unable to turn on the Active Virus Control.

Running multiple security solutions on the same PC may affect their proper functionality as they compete for access to the same system resources. Even if they are turned off, there are some active processes running in the background.

We recommend you to uninstall other security solutions in order for Bitdefender to work properly.

Also, I think you have some corrupted files, please repair Bitdefender by following the steps from here:

Thank you for your reply.

I uninstalled the other security programs and followed the repair procedure. However, I am evaluating the trial product so I don't have an activation key.

When I followed the EICAR link you provided, all I got was a blank screen and no warnings.

I still can't enable AVC. The switch toggles back to the off position.

I'm very impressed with support here. It does inspire confidence in the product.

I downloaded and ran the support tool, but it's been 'Getting event logs' for the last 30 minutes.

It seems to be working now.

I can see the warning page and the green ticks in search engine results.

I didn't change anything, it just started working. Saying that, it would be good to know what happened.
