Today I got the latest definitions for my Bitdefender 2013 and did a full scan, came up clean. Since my bit defender has a history of failing to detect and remove some bugs, I did a second full scan with an online scan from a competitor.

It's possible it is a false positive, but allegedly the competitor online scanner found TROJ GE.B955326F. I tried to locate the bug on the hard drive to manually submit to bit defender but I could not find the bug in the location specified. The bug might have already been temporarily quarantined, I might have looked the wrong place, but it might have been a scam; possibly a deliberate false positive to try to scare people into buying their product.

My desktop showed clean. My netbook indicated infected, I removed the infection.

Generic detection is a form of heuristics commonly implemented in anti-malware software. Items not identified exactly by means of a signature can sometimes be considered to be similar enough to a known item to merit an alert, and in many cases even a class identification.

Products alerting on generic detection will often use broader naming than with exact detection, perhaps classing something as 'fam' or '.gen' to indicate that it belong to the same family or genus but cannot be labelled as a specific variant.

Without actually analyzing the file, we can not provide you a status based on a detection from another antivirus product.
