Htc One X And Gps

Hi,

Using my.bitdefender.com, I cannot locate my phone without *manually* enabling GPS or WiFi on the phone. I would have thought the desired functionality is that the GPS can be enabled remotely?

If I manually enable either GPS or WiFi, then the phone is located correctly. But, with neither enabled, the phone cannot be located. Is this how it is supposed to work?

Well to put this more clearly , android apps. can't enable GPS by them self. It's a security/privacy feature in android.

Only system apps. have that right ( such as widgets that you have from the start with your phone).

On the other hand if you can find an app. that does so , please leave a reply here. Up until now there are some hacks that work on some versions of android.

But starting from Gingerbread ( 2.3.6 ) up to Jelly-Bean ( 4.1.2 ) there is no way an app. can enable the GPS.

It appears that from Android 4.2 apps. have the possibility to **enable** and start the GPS .

Would just like to add that I have the HTC One X (international) running 4.1.2 rooted, and I can confirm that the anti-theft can "wake up" the GPS on the phone and locate it. This is excellent and is the reason I bought the security suite. <img class= " />

So all-in-all, a great product and BD antitheft/security suite can enable GPS remotely once set up with superuser rights. Facebook has started doing this too while I'm at work so have installed the greenify app to "hibernate" the facebook app.

If possible, adding a feature to BD to prevent applications like greenify from being able to "hibernate" the application so the wake-on GPS can still be used to locate the device would be a good security feature, unless it already does this? I don't want to test it...

Hello ,

Since greenify uses root to perfom actions it's hard to prevent it.

If ever , Mobile Security will provide features for rooted phones , we'll keep this request and look into it at that point.
