Bitdefender & Explorer.exe

Hello all ,

This is my first topic on BitDefender Forum so excuse me if I posted in the wrong section , I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64

installed on my pc which is GA-G41MT-S2P , 4G RAM

When I installed BitDefender Total Security 2013 x64 the problem began :

When I open " My Computer " the window hangs for more than 1 minute , and if I clicked on anything , explorer.exe crashes .

Note that this problem (Explorer.exe hangs and crashes) doesn't occur only on startup , it happens randomly (many many many times)

and it's not only the problem with opening and exploring folders , when I open start menu and click on any program menu , all files ( like

files under accessories submenu are shown white ( like it's unknown extension ) , then when I try harder to open more sub menus , the

whole start menu and taskbar goes unresponding . :wub:

I succeeded in knowing what causes this annoying problem , it's BitDefender

HOW ?

when I uninstalled it , the problem disappears , when I reinstall it , the problem comes back .

here is a list of programs which I installed on windows :

-Malwarebyte's anti malware ( as an alternative untill I can figure out the resolution)

-PowerISO

-Nero12

-TuneUpUtilities2013

-Real Player

-Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 Preview

-Adobe Reader , Shockwave and Flash Player

, I tried disabling Active control in bitdefender , but nothing is fixed .

I tried adding explorer.exe to processes exclusion

I tried with a program called ShelEXView and I disabled all non microsoft objects , but noting is fixed so I re enabled what I disabled .

I have been googling and trying to find a resolution to this annoying problem , but noting helped me until now .

It'll be appreciated if you guys helped me because I can't do without BitDefender TS .

In order to be able to further investigate the reported situation we need a bit more information from your computer as follows:

. A BDSYS log;

[how to GENERATE A BDSYS LOG]

. Save and extract the BDSYS tool to a location of your choice:

. Make sure you close all active applications and then run "BDSysLog_i.exe"; If you receive a firewall

alert,select to Allow the application to connect;

. Click the "Create log" button to start generating the

log; A progress bar is indicating that the tool is creating the report;

. When the small window appears with the message "Log

saved" then the report is complete and a new file named "bdsyslog.zip" has appeared on your Desktop;

. Send me via PM the generated log file.

. If the file is to big for send it over PM, upload the results to one of the online file hosting servers mentioned below or use one of your own and send via PM the download link.

IMPORTANT:

.During this process the Real Time Protection in Bitdefender must be temporarily disabled;

.If you receive a Bitdefender Firewall alert to inform you that BDSysLog_i.exe tries to connect to the internet,then you need to select Allow;

[how to DISABLE THE ANTIVIRUS PROTECTION in Bitdefender 2013]

In order to disable the antivirus protection, please open Bitdefender and click the "Settings" button in the upper side part of the interface"; In the new window go to "Antivirus" > "Shield" tab and click on "ON" under On-access scanning. Select the time interval that suites your troubleshooting needs and click "OK". The On-access scanning should be enabled back after finishing the troubleshooting procedure.

[How to create a screen shot]

On Windows, press the Print Screen or Prnt Scrn key on your keyboard, found at the upper right of the keyboard. This key will capture the entire screen. Open up your paint program -click on "Start-> All Programs-> Accessories->

Paint". In the paint program, select File/New, then Edit/Paste. Then save the file and attach it in your PM message.

If the file is to big for send it over PM, upload the results to one of the online file hosting servers mentioned below or use one of your own and send via PM the download link.

We will get back to you as soon as the analysis is complete.

It had set these settings before the problem happened , and I tried this solution ( even if I turned all settings off) , the problem still happening.

In order to be able to properly identify the causes for the reported situation and find a solution we will need to investigate a bit deeper.

Please follow the steps below and send us the result:

a ) Go to this page

b ) Extract the contents of the downloaded file and run the 'autoruns.exe' file;

c ) Wait for the list to be filled with all the processes and then make sure that you have the Everything tab selected in the upper part;

d ) Click on the Disk icon right under File and chose any location folder on your computer;

e ) Save the file with a specific name (your name, computer name, a random name, which one you want) and then send me a PM with it.

bitdefender is crap

I've had so so many issues now.

For two months I've had this issue. Usually when I check desktop folders I will get the same systems where it hangs and crashes. Start menu disappears and task bar disappears and desktop disappears and refreshes in a couple of seconds. It happens to me all the time.

I bought new sata cables,did harddrive checks, ran sfc. I did tons of stuff to figure out what was going on. I googled all the explorer.exe crash fix. Tried like 10-20 of the fixes and none works. Only reason I took so long to reformat because I was playing hitman,gw2 and a couple of other games so I left it.

Finally I was fed up with this issue and decided to reformat a couple of days ago. I reformatted 3 times. First time I reformatted I always install bitdefender first than my ati stuff etc..

I noticed I was still getting the explorer.exe crash error. At this point, I already had like 30+ apps installed so I was like f it, I'm going to reformat again. I seriously though it was my ssd was going bad.

Second format I did the same thing but with only 10 apps installed. I was still getting the issue. So I was like f it why not uninstall all the apps and see if this problem still occurs. I uninstalled everything and the problem went away.

Just to make sure I reformatted the third time and just installed bitdefender. Sure enough I got the same error. I uninstalled bitdefender and the problem went away. I even went so far to unplug my other hd's also in this test to make sure it was bitdefender.

I run a beast machine so I doubt it would be my specs

-windows 7 ultimate

-16gb ram

-sapphire 6990 4gb

-120gb ssd 4tb and 1.5tb hd

-1200 80+warr cosair power supply

-intel i975 extreme edition

-intel dx58so motherboard

-water cooling

unfortunately this hasn't been my first issue with bitdefender 2013 series

As a ###### bitdefender fan I'll probably be switching to kaspersky which is pretty sad because I love bitdefender.

Good luck getting help on the forums because the tech help either take's forever to reply or don't post anything at all. (not to flame just personal experience)

A product update was released. Your build should be 16.26.0.1739(please right click on Bitdefender icon from system tray-near the clock-and choose "About". You should see in the left side the build number).

In order for the product update to be installed, you need to reboot your machine(you should see in the Events -> "Reboot required" under the Update module).

In this product update, we released a stability update and this should solve all the issues related to Windows Explorer.
