Slow Boot - Performance Issues - Resolved After 24hrs

FYI...

Upgraded to Bitdefender Total Security on my Lenovo X61s notebook yesterday and immediately noted severe performance issues, hangs on toolbar and menu selection along with slow booting up to 4 minutes. Like others there was a 2-3 minute black screen before the desktop appeared. It was configured with AUTO SCAN ON. Tried several installs/repairs to no avail. CPU use from vsserve.exe was very high 30-60pct initially, then gradually decreased allowing some usability. I own another Lenovo notebook and an i7 generic desktop. Both of those had no performance or slow boot issues with BD 2013. I was about to uninstall permanently and find another product when a decision was made to run a FULL SCAN overnight.

After a six hour full scan, I found one file with a trojan vulnerability that was fixed automatically. Note, that I could not find that in my logs later on even though the User Manual indicated a GUI "view logs" link which I could not find. The good news is that both the slow booting and performance issues cleared up. My Lenovo notebook has an SSD drive. Boot times were around 28 secs to a login prompt; 58 secs from password entry to a fully non-blocked desktop.

Though others out there should learn from my experience. No noticeable performance issues now with AUTOSCAN on. The moral to the story is that you should first try a FULL SCAN before giving up on BD 2013.
