Autorun

Hello,

I have an Autorun entry that I do not remember seeing until recently. Is this entry valid? Or was it supposed to be a runonce entry then deleted? I am just curious as to whether it is valid and supposed to be there in Autoruns.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

"bdinstaller"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Bitdefender\\SetupInformation\\downloader\\setuplauncher.exe\" /run:\"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Bitdefender\\SetupInformation\\downloader\\setupdownloader.exe\" /args:\"/after_restart\""

bdinstaller Bitdefender Setup Launcher Bitdefender c:\program files\common files\bitdefender\setupinformation\downloader\setuplauncher.exe

Thanks in advance for your help and knowledge...

  • The "Setup Information" folder is used to Repair/Uninstall Bitdefender. So the entries created by the files from it are legitimate. You don't need to worry about them.

    Hello puff-m-d,

    As ONT already mentioned, the entry is legitimate.

    Actually, when you double click on Bitdefender installation kit it selfextracts in this location:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bitdefender\SetupInformation

    - "setupdownloader.exe" launches UI

    - "setuplauncher.exe" checks for system requirements, it checks dependencies (adds C++ Redistributable 2010 if necessary) and also checks for other security solutions using "detection.xml" from "external" folder

    I had been experimenting around with a light virtualization program and what files and/or folders I could exclude from it. The short answer is I ended up corrupting my BD W8S install, so I had to do a repair install. I do not remember that Autorun entry beforehand, but it was there after the repair. I just wanted to be sure the entry should remain and was not a leftover from the repair that needed to be removed. I shall leave it alone as suggested.

    Thanks again for the replies!
