HI
I have cryptolocker. I cant control this with my bitdefender... Any idea what do?
MalwareBytes will get rid of the malware but nothing I've seen so far will unencrypt your files.
None of the information below is mine. It's a cut and paste directly from a different forum. If requested I will provide the original link. I don't know the policies of this forum in regard to linking to other forums, but the thread it came from doesn't have any information beyond what's in the links below.

Ransomware; A nasty strain of Windows malware that uses advanced encryption to lock up user files before demanding a ransom. It leaves users in danger of losing important files forever unless they pay up.

You need to try and remove the infection/restore your files in 2 main steps;
1. Remove Cryptolocker completely using the free Malwarebytes; Removal guide is here; https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...c=134420
2. But problem is that affected files remain encrypted; Malwarebytes cannot undo the encryption. The only way of restoring your files is from a backup, or if you have System Restore.

I am not sure that F-Secure have added detection for this malware but even if they have it can't help in recovering encrypted files post-infection. Their online scanner may be able to remove it; http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/labs_global...ving-ransomware

Hi, I don't want to open a new topic so I'll just ask here: am I safe from Crypto Locker with Bitdefender? Or should I install something like HitmanPro.Alert 2 in order to be completely safe?
Thank you for contacting us in regards to your concern.
Rest assured that Bitdefender protects against Cryptolocker ransomware.
In case a computer is infected with Cryptolocker before installing Bitdefender, make sure Windows is updated. A Cryptolocker-blocking tool is available for download here:

Georgia,
Could you clarify the above. Does my BitDefender Internet Security protect against these or not? ie: do I need to use this separate program you've linked to?
Bump for clarity. I need to know if this protects it alone or if I need to use the mentioned tool in the link.
From Georgia's reply she says "In case a computer is infected with Cryptolocker before installing Bitdefender". So if you are clear at this moment you are protected against future attacks by Cryptolocker, only if you are infected before you download BD do you need to use the removal tool mentioned.
Ok, thanks for that.
