How To Remove Of Conduit Toolbar From Chrome

I have Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 running on Windows 7 and use Google Chrome as my browser.

I accidentally installed the Conduit toolbar. I have uninstalled in through control panel, but it still appears. I have also changed my home page back to Google, but web opens with the conduit search page and even after clicking on home page, i do not get the chrome homepage. This seriously interferes with internet use with pop up adds etc.

I have researched removal of conduit on chrome but am unable to follow instructions because the chrome menu (to access Tools, extensions) has disappeared. The wrench icon is operated by Conduit. In fact, even going to toolbar options and hiding many items on the toolbar has no effect.

Bitdefender antivirus has discovered 8 infected files today which i believe are related. I read that Bitdefender does not consider Conduit malicious, but i find it to be quite so!

PLEASE HELP. I am willing to upgrade my Bitdefender software if that will solve the problem. I am not running any other security software.

I cannot find a scan report, other than the notice "you are currently protected, no issues to fix" and last antivirus scan completed today.

To my knowledge, it is not possible trough public means to disable these menus.

As a workaround, you should be able to go to the extensions page directly by writing chrome://extensions/ in your address bar.

You may find the conduit extension there, if it is loaded as an extension, or under chrome://plugins/ if it is loaded as a plugin. I would suggest that you first disable things, and not directly remove them.

You should also check that the shortcut you are using to access Chrome has not been changed (by right-clicking it and checking that under Properties there is nothing after "chrome.exe" in the Target field).
