What Is Winpcap 4.1.2

While I was uninstalling a program via windows control panel I noticed a program that I did not recognise.

WinPcap 4.1.2 Publisher: CACE Technologies. Version: 4.1.0.2001

This had been installed a few months ago without my knowledge.

I run BD - full system scan very regularly at least once weekly.

I've also run Malware Bytes (free version).

I must have done this several times since this program installed itself.

Does anybody know what this program is?

Is it serious?

Google is your friend

WinPcap is nothing to worry about, it is a Windows Capture program used by many apps to collect and present stats.

It is used by System Explorer , Sys internals , Process Explorer and many others.

If you have it installed it came as part of another program you are using.

When I googled it earlier I see lots of sites explaining how to remove it. So I thought I'd best ask.
