A Genuine Bitdefender Image Or Am I Hacked?!

Bitdefender said I had a virus, then it told me if I wanted to reboot. I said 'yes'. Then it felt like I wasn't alone anymore on the computer (Windows 8.1), and a big image turned up looking like this

- but not quite. It was more colorful. The image was alright and nice, but the rest was looking very amateur-like with a black arrow-pointer, and a pointing hand (never seen that before). A distorted text showed up and said 'Bitdefender on demand antivirus scanner', and 'copying antivirus engines'. I think it sounded so weird, and turned completely off the computer. I'm now using the old and sloooow one with free Avast, and Home Vista Premium.

Please tell me I'm not hacked...

In my experience, I had rebooted to complete cleaning infections, however there are no changes in but simply the infection is eliminated (some file gets deleted). The image does look like Bitdefender's image from the main website. From your description, you restarted your computer in Bitdefender Rescue Mode. What version of Bitdefender are you using?

I can't. There is only that big image. And a lot of text in strong colors. I can't get into anything. There is a button - and some others - telling me to install Firefox. It's already installed.

Good question. I downloaded it January this year...I think it's Internet Security 2014. But don't kill me if I'm wrong...I think the picture looked like a fish in some colorful water, but then again I was so scared about what I saw that I quickly turned off the power.

Now I've visited the new computer again. I don't know how to get out of that reboot! It says ^{'The system is going down now!'}- and then the computer shuts down itself. There are 3 buttons to click: SCAN NOW - UPDATE NOW - SETTINGS. I don't know what to write in settings. It's for a pro IT nerd, and not me. I clicked on 'install Firefox' - just to see what would happen. 'Namoroka is free and open source software from the non-profit Mozilla Foundation'. And 'Do you want Namoroka to save your tabs for the next time it starts?'. There is also a pop-up 'TC and buttons: Exit and Options' Why do Bitdefender wants you to install Firefox, when you're in reboot?

I printed the manual for Bitdefender, and did what it said. I've not been hacked by anything but Bitdefender itself! So I do hope there is a person in here, who has got enough knowledge to teach me how to get out of the reboot, and that Bitdefender logo!

Terminating all processes

Uncounting all filesystems

Shutdown in progress

I guess I have to buy this programme called EasyBCD to get rid of 'Rescue Mode'?! Wasn't it a great idea if Bitdefender sent it to me? Wouldn't it be fair?

It's not for Windows 8.1 - is it? It says it's for Windows XP / Vista / Vista 64 bit / 7 / 7 64 bit. So can I use it?

If you are stuck in Bitdefender Rescue Mode, you can refer to a previous report. Rogerio Ribeiro reported using the mentioned tool to boot back to Windows 8.1. The tool is free for personal non-commercial use.
