By default, BD will automatically submit (unless it was changed by user preference) quarantined files that are found. If you wanted to copy the file location, then restore the file, you could then manually submit the file here. You could then rescan that folder, and if BD quarantines it again, let it. Then check the box of allowing BD to rescan the file after virus def. updates (see image below).

To restore the file, open the BD main UI/Protection Panel/Antivirus tab (gear icon)/Quarantine tab. Click on the file in the lower box, and click to Restore.

If that file is (stays quarantined) and your able to web surf normally, I wouldn't worry about it, and let the BD malware team see if there needs to be a virus def. update created for this one.

1. I'm using Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition. I don't see any way to determine if I have set any user preference for submitting detected files or not. Is there any way to see this?

2. Is there some way to know if it is safe or not to restore a detected file and then submit it? I don't know enough about security to decide this.

3. If I leave the file quarantined now, will Bitdefender ever restore it automatically if it is found to be ok?

Unfortunately, Jim, I'm not to familiar with how the free version is set up, and the options concerning quarantined files. Maybe someone else here who knows more about the free version can help you, or consider the other support options shown below in my siggy.
