Bitdefender 4.1.2.18 slowing down Time Machine backups on MacOS 10.12.2

Backuping up 136GB of data to an external Thunderbolt SSD disk has been ongoing for 4 hours and only completed 38GB. Usually, it takes less than 40 minutes. This only started happening after I installed Bitdefender. I turned off Auto Pilot and there was no change. Bitdefender CPU% usage is VERY low, around 3%.
