I've just joined this forum. I filled in my name, e-mail and chose a password. I received the email and confirmed the account with the link button in the email. Then your system wanted to verify using a smartphone Google app. I don't have a smartphone, or anything similar. There was an option for those not able to scan the code.

I clicked on that option and it gave me a long string of letters/numbers to type in to verify the accounts. First, I did a copy-paste. It didn't accept the code. So I carefully typed it in, checking each letter several times. it still didn't accept the code, even though I know it was correct.

The Bitdefender tech people need to check this out! This manual option simply doesn't work!

What you are asking about is the "Not able to scan the QR code?". That is for people without cameras on their devices(or privacy concerned) and provides a way of manually typing in that code in an authenticator app you might have on a smartphone. You are not supposed to copy/paste that code to the field. Instead, the field is for a validation number emitted by the authenticator app once you have scanned/typed the code. You can read start reading authenticator from here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Authenticator.

The link at the bottom of the registration form (after verifying your email) says "or opt-out of account verification" and is for users unable or unwilling to use authenticator based two-factor authentication. It appears you have figured that out by yourself.
