I spent a couple of hours yesterday trying to submit a report. Your desription of the process is cryptic to say the least
There are several stages, and no feedback on the success or otherwise of my completion of each step
what is needed is a step by step description of what I have to do. ASSUME NOTHING about my knowledge

I wrote a game application in C++which is 20 y old but still very good, which I am trying to run but win 7 won't run it now because it alleges there's a trojan atached.
If this is true, I'd like to fix it, otherwise, how to get around it.
My suspicion is that I have solutions embedded in the executable, which are apparently random hex strings, which have meaning for the program, but which look like strings of virus or trojan code to bitdefender.
How do I fix this.? I am going to attach the executable here in case some wizard out there can quickly look at it. (OK-- so steal my code!)
