More than a week ago I discovered my PC had been infected with the trojan roraccoon which Total Security apparently missed. In fact, looking at logs there was one blocked virus. (I used Malwarebytes to detect the trojan along with 133 PUP's). I decided to do a Full System Scan and finally stopped it after 5 1/2 days and 98%. It showed 3 million files scanned. That sounds incredible on a 500 GB HD. I've since used another free scan which has discovered another 33+ infected files.
Is it reasonable to see the full system scan run for such a long time?
Should I re-run the scan?
Is there any way to scan individual sectors ? My PC has a
sector with recovery files and from what I can see Bitdefender is only scanning the C: sector. Also, can it scan an external (USB) drive?
I need to be sure that all my personal files (docs, graphic, photos, music etc) are clean before I offload prior to wiping the drive and reinstalling Windows.
Is there anything else I should be doing? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
