My laptop has been infected by Gandcrab 5.2 !
What should I do ?
Can I hope that Bitdefender ever comes up with a new tool to decrypt my files ?

If you want to make sure that your Pc is now clean, please send us a Bdsys log at bitsy@bitdefender.com. At this moment we do not have a decryption tool available for Gandgrab 5.2. We recommend you to backup the files and check from time to time our site https://labs.bitdefender.com/2018/10/gandcrab-ransomware-decryption-tool-available-for-free/ for a new decryption tool.

Hopefully you have a decryption tool for 5.2 soon. Yesterday I got infected also. At exactly around 4:59pm my pc started to encrypt all datafiles. I am wondering what caused the start of this action, since nobody was near the pc when it started. So no malicious email opening or any other manual action at that time.

It may depend if Bitdefender was installed or not at that moment. In case it was installed, in order for us to provide more details of how did the infection get through, we need the following logs:
