Disenfecting wrong files

Hi there!

So I am using Bitdefender Internet security 2019. I am downloading certain files, game cheat engines, from a website. Scanning the files after or during downloading confirms they are safe.

However because the nature of the cheat engine is to edit game files, Bitdefender panics and disinfects/quarantines the engine when I launch the engine. I have made an exception for the website the engines are downloaded from!

Any advice as to how I stop Bitdefender deleting/disinfecting/quarantining the engines?

Hello Vashnu,

If the files have been automatically disinfected/deleted, you may be able to recover them by following these steps:

A) Disable the real-time protection in Bitdefender temporarily

1. Bring up the Bitdefender interface and click on the hamburger menu from the upper left side of the interface.

2. Click on the Protection module, then click on View Features.

3. Disable Advanced Threat Defense by clicking on the on/off switch.

4. Click on the gear-shaped icon under Antivirus. On the Shield turn off the Bitdefender Shield.

 Check if the files are in Quarantine:

1. Go to the Antivirus module again and this time select the Quarantine tab.

2. If the files are there, select them, then click on Restore.

C) If the files are not in Quarantine, please follow the next steps:

1. Open Bitdefender and click on the menu button from the upper left side of the interface.

2. Click on Notifications, then select the All tab.

3. Look for a notification stating that an infected file was detected or that a potentially malicious application was detected.

4. Click on the notification and click Restore if the option is available.

D) Set exclusions for these apps (only if you trust them):

- Exclude them from being scanned by the Advanced Threat defense module: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/2393/

- Exclude them from being scanned by the Bitdefender Shield: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/13427/
