Getting McAfee / Norton expired notification after uninstall

Running Win10 Pro on an HP Gaming machine from Best Buy we bought a little before new years.

First thing I did was uninstall McAfee and Norton, and install BitDefender.

Now, less than 4 months later, I'm getting 2 different popups on my system regarding McAfee and Norton notifications that the software is expired.

My family has Bitdefender "Total Security" and everything* is coming up clean.

*"Everything" meaning I've hit random buttons looking for spyware, but Quick Scan and System Scan show clean.

I have gone to task manager and tried randomly shutting programs down that didn't look like they were obviously programs that I installed.

Is there a guide somewhere for tracking down programs that hide from the "Uninstall or change a program" menu?

Or is there some tool that hooks up to the video stream and can tell me what process is painting to the screen, or what process (for lack of a better term) "my mouse is hovering over" ?

I remember there being some "SysInternals" tools (just remembered that name) that gave me more control.

Again, are there any guides, or tools for tracking down malware?

This is the first one of 2.

It seems to show up about once every 20 minutes (not timed) and stays for about 90 seconds (not timed) and then goes away.

I can't dismiss the screen, but if I click on it, it will open up a page on my browser.

How do I track down this program? If it's Malware, bitdefender is not finding it. (It's been a couple of days and am rerunning the system scan, I'm 44% in after 17 minutes, so it's going to be a bit longer.

I've added some steam games to my system recently, but that's about it.

Here's the newest version, it's kind of slick, opens on a webpage and looks like a bunch of McAfee windows opening in quick succession.

And this is the next one, that I cal "003-Update your antivirus and remove recent threats.png"

The interesting thing is that the screen seems to float above my desktop, the snipping tool captures it, but everything on screen "goes behind" these popups.

Again, I'm just hoping that someone can point me to some steps to uncover and eliminate this irritation.

I have to give them credit for being able to keep changing things. Again, if someone has a pointer to a guide to track this down and kill it, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi...Not exactly sure what you have going on there, but you could try a program called adwcleaner from Malwarebytes. It has been very successful at finding and removing things for me over the years. Let us know if it helps.

I will give it a shot. I kind expected BitDefender to be able to handle adware and other malware.

Nope, that didn't work. ADWCleaner found it, but wasn't able to remove it.

Hi There,

Sorry for the issues you are facing. Since you have run AdwCleaner & still you are facing the issues, then follow the below process. Lets first check if your PC really has McAfee & Norton files installed.

Download Antivirus removal tools and run as administrator

Norton : http://liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com/upgrade/RnR/NRnR.exe

McAfee : http://download.mcafee.com/molbin/iss-loc/SupportTools/MCPR/MCPR.exe

Run both the uninstallers as admin and after restart the computer. Next reset the browser settings.

Next we need to remove temporary files:

open run command (windows icon+r) and type exactly as stated below and execute one by one. Delete all files from each folder.

prefetch (delete all files from this folder)

temp (delete all files from this folder)

%temp% (delete all files from this folder)

Next install Zemana antimalware free (http://d31a49a8t7vrb6.cloudfront.net/api/products/antimalware/?cid=3&dummyVer=3001495) and scan the system for adware. Zemana antimalware is more advance than malwarebytes antimalware and adwcleaner. Since Zemana uses cloud engine, make sure internet connection is available.

Let me know if the issue still persists, then we will do little more troubleshooting.

If everything looks fine then you can uninstall zemana antimalware and install bitdefender.
