In the "Free Version" of Bit-Defender, are "Updates" automatic, or do I have to preform them manually... AND, how often is my computer "Scanned", or do I have to do my security scans "Manually"?

1) Every bitdefender product updates itself after every 1 hour (be it paid or free) . In simple words, time interval between 2 successful update is 1 hour. The only thing bitdefender free lacks is the force update option which is only available in paid version of product. In paid version you can also manually check for updates whenever you want.
2) Similar to its paid version, the free version also constantly monitors the system for any malicious activity in the background.
3) You can also perform manual scans via free version, if you need to.
