Can't get rid of old free version and cannot install newest free version
I have a free version of the antivirus program. I was trying to remove an old version and install the most recent version. Trying to uninstall wouldn't remove the old files so I tried to remove them manually but couldn't -- none of the usual ways of deleting stubborn files worked including the use of third party tools. I also tried a couple of the bitdefender uninstall programs for Antivirus Plus but they didn't work either.
So then I tried to install the latest free version of the antiVirus program hoping that it would update the old files to the new ones but unfortunately that didn't work.
So I am now in a state where the old version is inactive (it's been removed from the Windows registry), I can't get rid of any of its files, and I cannot install an updated version.
Please help me out of this mess. How can I delete the files for the older version of the free antiVirus program?

I finally figured out a way!
If you boot into safe mode with a command prompt, you can delete the folder with the appropriate command.

First of all uninstaller available on the bitdefender website are only meant and created to uninstall commercial/ paid version of bitdefender product. There is currently no bitdefender developed uninstaller for free version.
Moving forward, kindly perform below steps & see if they help you in anyway.
1) Kindly uninstall bitdefender free & bitdefender agent.
2) Restart PC in safe mode (https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode)
3) As soon as desktop opens, assuming your windows drive is C, open below things in run (windows icon + R) command one by one :
C:\Program Files (delete any folder with name bitdefender)
C:\Program Files (x86) (delete any folder with name bitdefender)
C:\ProgramData (delete any folder with name bitdefender)
C:\Users\{your pc name}\AppData\Local (delete any folder with name bitdefender)
4) Open run command again and run below command one by one :
temp ,delete all the files in the folder
%temp% ,delete all the files in folder
prefetch ,delete all the files in folder
5) Restart your PC in general mode by unticking the option that you selected to run the system in safe mode and then click apply.
6) Try reinstalling bitdefender product of your choice.
